Barcelona city hosts again an important sports event since the Olympics in 1992. Yesterday night we could assist to the open ceremony in the Magic Fountain of Montjuich and the revival of the Olympics was there although this event is only for the European countries.
The past months the City Council has invested a lot of money despite the economic crisis in preparing and set up the equipments for this event and now they forecast to obtain a ROI (return of investment) of more than 42 million euros thanks to the 1000 hours of TV broadcast that will reach to more than 50 countries.
Hotels lobby begin to forecast a good summer season in Barcelona with a 76% of occupation as the majority of the public assistance is from outside Barcelona according to the ticketing figures they have til now.

Barcelona is not only a beautiful city full of history and monuments to see when you come to visit us and also fine restaurants where you can enjoy one of the best gastronomies of the world. Spring is all over our city and this week we have to write in our agendas the following items: next friday 23rd. is Sant Jordi’ s day (Saint George) - remember the old legend of that handsome lord that killed the dragon and saved the princess? - The tradition not only in Barcelona, also all over Catalonia, is that all men have to buy a red rose to their women (wife, mother, grandmother, sisters, friends, etc) and women have to buy a book to the men. This is why all the streets in all the catalans cities and villages will be full of little shops selling both products (average price of a rose is 3-5 €) and all catalans go for a walk during the evening if the April’s weather permits it (it is forecasted rain). More things to be considered this week in Barcelona is the Open Godó of tennis and in two weeks, the Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1. By the way: the BCN airport has been re-opened and it works with normality, no problem with the volcanic cloud.
La muestra Arte en la calle, Auguste Rodin en Barcelona, reúne en Rambla de Catalunya siete esculturas monumentales del Museo Rodin de París: El Pensador (que el maestro concibió en un inicio para formar parte del grupo escultórico de La Puerta del Infierno pero que acabó cobrando vida autónoma), y seis estudios de los seis prohombres que conforman el Monumento a los burgueses de Calais. La exposición forma parte del programa Arte en la calle, una iniciativa pionera de la Obra Social ”la Caixa” que ya ha permitido ver en Barcelona dos exposiciones al aire libre de Manolo Valdés e Igor Mitoraj. El objetivo de este ciclo es el de sacar el arte de las salas de exposiciones, devolverlo al espacio público y provocar un diálogo con la arquitectura. Nunca mejor dicho en el caso de Rodin, quien concibió sus esculturas para ser expuestas al aire libre.
Las siete esculturas monumentales que componen la exposición Arte en la calle. Auguste Rodin en Barcelona, comisariada por Hélène Marraud, del Museo Rodin de París, están instaladas en Rambla de Catalunya –entre las calles de Consell de Cent y Diputació- y se podrán ver del 18 de diciembre de 2009 al 6 de febrero de 2010

After a pause there, we will continue to take a walk around the city’s most famous street, namely Paseo de Gracia, where you can see some of the works by the famous architect, Gaudí. A tour of two of his houses, Casa Batlló and the Casa Milá and then on to the Sagrada Familia (the Gaudí Cathedral still under construction). A visit to the front of this spectacular church and then a visit to the old town known as the Barrio Gótico or Gothic Quarter. A stroll through to Barcelona’s mediaeval Cathedral and the surrounding squares. Other option is visit the Park Güell, also designed by Gaudí. End of the tour at the pier.

Yesterday night the Football club Barcelona won its third Champions League against Manchester United of Mr. Cristiano Ronaldo and Sir Alex Ferguson. The red-blue team played its best style, like no other can do right now in the world, and finish an incredible year with the three most important titles: Liga (Spanish Championship), King’s Cup (of Spain) and the Champions League.
Congratulations to the team, players and all supporters from all over the world!
